Carbon Decoy, one of Detroit’s premier power trios has recently blessed the world with their latest effort, “Superstition Plagues the Purity of All” a 40 minute thrill ride into an abyss that is all doom with no gloom. Preying on the masses with their muddied, electrifying sound. The record is a track for track gem. Full blown ripper that treats the listener with some of the grimiest grooves out there. They have concocted a Sonic soundscape full of fuzz and sludge. A high frequency mudslide of brilliance.
The record pairs well with a nice indica and a sixer of Pabst Blue.
The record kicks off with ‘Convince the Blind’ and the opening riff sets the tone for what to expect throughout the album. Hitting heavy, and with precision it swells as Casey’s vocals place the cherry on top of the rhythmic rainstorm the band hails down on the listener.
It’s groovy, and grainy. A thrill ride that doesn’t take its foot off the gas, as each track builds upon the last sending you into a maelstrom of auditory wonderment.
‘Out of Control’ brings alive some of the punk ethos that are sprinkled throughout the fellas sound.
‘Like a Dagger’ brings back the sludgy metal for a six minute ripper that leaves you in a state of suspended anticipation for what may come.
‘Snake Eyes’ brings it back down to earth for a bit, until it the crescendos into a soul snatching state of sonic disarray. Swaying back and forth between the calm before the storm and the eye of the hurricane.
‘Like a Witch’ wastes no time diving into the darkness with an insanely catchy riff that hits your core with curiosity.
‘Alter time’ is nice homage to Detroit’s rich hardcore history. Quick and to the point that will get any circle pit moving with ferocity.
‘Melancolia’ is a screamer that takes you straight into heart of a Death Valley mushroom party. Which is a masterful buildup to the albums closer, the wretched chaos of ‘The prowl’ where the band leaves it all out on the table to punch the listeners ticket into caverns of a greasy sludge pot. Where the magic of this auditory journey casts a doomsday spell on the ears of all. Cascading into a giant cluster of the morose magnificence of the album.
There’s nothing but gold on this record. It’s been in heavy rotation since it dropped in January. The fellas bring the same energy you can hear on the album to the stage. They are on of the hottest acts pushing tunes on the streets right now. Waste no time in following them on Instagram, and Spotify. Give this a spin, your ear holes will be forever indebted to you for servicing them with such powerful penetration. You can catch them at the El Club on April 6th opening for Glass Chimera as well as other dates that can be found on their socials.
