With the big Glass Chimera record release show rapidly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to familiarize myself with the entire bill. Being no stranger to Carbon Decoy and the mighty Glass Chimera I’ve been ignorant to the sounds of Detroit’s own Toeheads.
Golly, am I excited to catch these guys in the act. After a thorough inspection of their discography available on Spotify I quickly realized the error of my ways, missing out on some absolute heat.
Toeheads take us back to a golden era, their fast paced, straight to the point style of punk makes you long for the days of our fathers, when you loaded up your 76 Nova with a Coleman cooler packed with Strohs, a bag of Acapulco Gold that was three fingers deep, a handful of ludes and an 8 ball of biker blow. Speeding through Hines Drive chucking your empties out the window while chasing any kinda skirt that’s nice enough to receive you. They are the perfect soundtrack for some vintage cruising.
They don’t leave much room for any kind of bullshit. It’s straight to the point. Fast and fearless. Makes you wanna dance and throw up double barrel birds to any authority figure in sight.
Regaling in the rich history of Detroit’s garage punk sounds, they have cut records that would make Iggy smirk. Their 2019 release “Together Now” and 2022 “A Cruel Winners World” have been playing on repeat as I sit at my day job with the garage door open enjoying the sun, and sounds of Toeheads.
There’s no doubt the studio stuff is just a small taste of these guys and their talent. This Saturday April 6th they will be warming up the crowd at the El Club in Southwest. I got my dancing shoes ready, and you should prepare yourself as well, for what is sure to be a fucking ruckus. Find the fellas on Instagram and Spotify, lube up them earholes in preparation for Saturday and be sure to snag your tickets. It is going to be a throw down for the ages with a stacked lineup. You are not going to want to miss this gig. I’ll be back to yak about the show, this won’t be last you hear about these guys from me.
