Earlier today I saw a clip of a Rammstein live show, the wild pyrotechnics display, the grandeur, the insanity. The ole intrusive thoughts kicked into high gear and immediately my mind went to, boy that would suck if there was some disastrous technical mishap and the stadium set ablaze. Full football stadium going into flames, like some modern day Auschwitz for old heads and neo goths. I can say with a firm certainty that I am not afraid of death, and dying at a show wouldn’t be the worst way to go, even if it was a fire induced death, (burning alive is a top five rather not go out like that scenario for me) but given the right soundtrack though? I could deal. But I would be pretty pissed if the last show I ever got to see was Rammstein.
A band that is still on my bucket list, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about the live show, I can with a steadfast vigor that I would be ripe fucking miffed trying to fight through the masses to escape raging flames, knowing that was going to be the last live performance I ever saw.
I imagine that is the same thought process for those who were unfortunate enough to be at the Great White show that ended up in flames back in 03.
Fucking Christ man, should’ve gone and seen Foghat, they all muttered as the smell of burning hair and flesh consumed their olfactories, suffocating on the stench and heavy smoke of burning bar and the inevitable BO that thickened the air before the fire broke out, decimating their final moments of consciousness with regret.
Give me death at a Clutch or a Ween show, Gary Clark Jr, or Modest Mouse. Tool. Fucking Birdcloud reunion? Sure, welcoming the warm embrace of the grim reaper at one of those gigs would at least leave me feeling some joy on my way out. Rammstein might put a chip on my shoulder. And no one should slip into the afterlife pissed off.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, I Love going to shows, but if it’s not the right band, I don’t want to die doing what I love. Soundtracks are crucial for everything.
Anyways, next chance I get to see Rammstein I will go, but believe me, Till better be on his A game. Cause I ain’t going out like that.
